There is no general obligation to convert existing vehicles. Conversions can be done voluntarily at any time.
Yes. For this purpose VDO has expanded its proven solutions for analogue tachographs (TIS-Office and TIS-Web) to include modules for the combined analysis of vehicle unit mass memory and driver card data.
DfT have implemented downloading and archiving legislation (The Passenger and Goods Vehicles (Recording Equipment) Downloading and Retention of Data) Regulations 2008. According to these regulations it is a mandatory requirement for companies to download and archive data on a regular basis. For example for driver cards within every 28 days and mass memory data within every 56 days
The Company Card is an electronic smart card similar in size to a photo driving licence / credit card and will be issued (upon application) by DVLA. The company card ensures only authorised persons have access to company-related data held on the Digital Tachograph. For example the card allows displaying, downloading and printing of the data stored in the vehicle unit or on the driver card. The Company Card can also be used to "lock in" and "lock out" the data so that the data will be accessible to that company but inaccessible to any other company, which may use the vehicle in the future.
The card identification details and information about the company are stored on the company card. Mass memory data cannot be stored on the company card.
In the UK, fleet and vehicle operators are able to apply to the DVLA for a company card.
Companies can apply to the DVLA for more than one company card (maximum 2232 cards).
In the UK, the application procedure for cards (including production and issue) is determined by DVLA. The DVLA have decided following consultation with transport operators and the industry that the company card is £38.00 and the renewal fee £19.00 company cards can be applied for using the DVLA form D7779B and further information is available on the DVLA website
